Atlantic String Quartet Performs March 26

March 26, 2014
As part of the Premier Artist Series, the ensemble will perform works by Turina, Mendelsohn and Beethoven.

CHESTERTOWN, MD—As part of the 2013-2014 Premier Artist line-up, Washington College presents the Atlantic String Quartet of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in concert Wednesday, March 26, at 8 p.m. in Hotchkiss Recital Hall, Gibson Center for the Arts. (This concert was rescheduled after inclement weather cancelled their appearance earlier this month.)

The quartet will perform Joaquin Turina’s “La Oracion del Torero,” Felix Mendelsohn’s Op. 44, No. 2, and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Op. 59, no. 3 in a concert made possible in part by a generous gift from Mark A. Schulman ’67, an emeritus member of the Washington College Board of Visitors and Governors.

The Atlantic String Quartet, founded in 1995, has established itself as one of the most prominent chamber music ensembles in the Baltimore-Washington area. The quartet has appeared at major chamber music series in the region, including Chamber Music by Candlelight, Music in the Great Hall, Sundays at Central, Music in the Mansion and Sundays at Three. They performed as guest artists at the highly regarded Quartet Program at Bucknell in Pa.  Quartet members Rebecca Nichols (violin), Greg Mulligan (violin), Karin Brown (viola), and Bo Li (cello), are all members of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and each has performed as soloist with the BSO and other American orchestras.

Individual tickets at $20 (adults) and $15 (seniors, students over age 12, and WC faculty/staff) can be reserved in advance or purchased at the door. Season tickets are available at $50 per person. Children ages 12 and under are admitted free. For more information, call 410-778-7839, email [email protected], or visit concertseries.washcoll.edu.
