Central Services Student Assistant Taylor Moore ’16 named 2016 Student Employee of the Year.

Most people on WC’s campus have met Taylor Moore ’16 at one time or another. Moore has worked in Central Services during his four years at Washington College and often goes office-to-office delivering mail or holds down the fort under the stairs in Casey Academic Center. “I am not sure how he does it, but he seems to always be there working. It is almost as if he has cloned himself,” said program emcee Natalie Story, the associate director of Student Financial Aid.

Bev trained him to run the mail machine, which is something very few students have been trusted with over the almost 10 years I have been here,” said McClain. But Moore’s devotion goes well beyond his job description. He has exceeded service expectations by helping students get large packages to their dorm rooms at the beginning of the semester, and he’s even helped a professor move.

Reflecting on Moore’s time with Central Services, McClain said, “I feel like he has grown so much over the 4 years he has worked for us. He has become like a son to us.”

We have been spoiled by Taylor and all his hard work,” added Assistant Director of Central Services Katherine Marge.

Thankfully, Central Services gets to continue being spoiled for a bit longer: after graduation, Moore will remain on the Central Services staff in a part-time capacity while he finishes an additional degree at WC. “His knowledge and love of Central Services and the College made him the hands down best person for the position.  We look forward to seeing his smiling face here with us in the Fall,” said Nickerson.

Two finalists were also honored at the event. Nicole Capobianco, Costume Shop Manager for the Department of Theatre and Dance, instituted initiatives such as the Costume Sign Out Sheet and the Costume Shop Orientation she runs at the beginning of every semester. She also developed the curriculum, compiled resources, created examples, and advertised the Sewing Series, which she has run for two years. Stew Bruce nominated Bradley Janocha, a Journeyman Leader with Geographic Information Systems who presented a lightning talk in front of thousands of attendees at ESRI UC Conference in San Diego and manages a $20,000 project with the Delaware State Department of Education as well as a team of three students in GIS.
