Weekly Recap 4/15
Men’s Lacrosse: Following their third conference victory in a row versus Haverford College on Wednesday, the Shoremen traveled to New Jersey where they took on Centenary College, where they won 23-6. This was the most goals scored under head coach Jeff Shirk.
Freshman attackman Cooper Sloan had career-bests and game-highs of five assists and seven points. Junior Peter Jacobs had career-high and a game-best four goals and tied his personal best 5 points.
WC returns to action on Saturday, April 22nd with a 12 p.m. conference game versus Franklin & Marshall.
Women’s Lacrosse: The Shorewomen played their one and only game of the week in winning fashion as they went on to defeat Bryn Mawr College 18-0. The highlight of the game was when senior attacker Katherine Vincent became the seventh player in team history to reach 200 career points.
Leading the way for WC in the win were juniors Madison Acra and Morgen Moran, each scoring three goals. Sophomore Alison Pantazes scored 3 goals. All three players also dished out two assists.
WC will host Haverford College on Wednesday, April 19th with a home conference game at 7 p.m.
Softball: WC ended their week on a high note with a double header sweep over Dickinson College. The Shorewomen won the first game 7-1, and then 2-1 in the second. To end the day, WC jumps to 9-3 in their Centennial Conference games.
The second game came in walk-off fashion with junior Allyson Meil, who hit the ball into right field, scoring freshman Leah Stokes as the winning run. Sophomore Maddie Bennett pitched a complete game, giving up just one run.
WC returns to the field on Saturday, April 22nd when they host Haverford College for a conference double header. It is also Senior Day for Kerri Estep and Erin Spinden.
Baseball: The Shoremen hosted Dickinson College for a Centennial Conference double-header where they lost the first game 18-1, but bounced back and won the second game 6-4.
Leading the way in the second game were seniors Matt Tancredi and Charlie Meder as well as junior Joe Lozupone. Tancredi scored two runs while Meder and Lozupone each had two RBIs. Sophomore Nick Roberti got his first win of the season.
WC will host McDaniel College on April 18th for a 3:30 p.m. conference game.
Women’s Tennis: The Shorewomen picked up a 5-4 game over Dickinson College, putting them at 4-2 in conference matches. WC won two of their doubles matches thanks to juniors Julie Lazer, Rachel Martinez, Krista Filiopoulos and freshman MP Hubert.
The next match for the team will come on Tuesday, April 18th versus Ursinus College at home.
Men’s Tennis: The Shoremen found the same success as the Shorewomen, picking up an 8-1 victory on their Senior Day. With the win, the team jumps to 3-2 in the conferences matches.
Seniors Zack Novick, Jeremy Novick, and Matthew Katz all contributed in the win. The team will return on Wednesday, April 19th with a match versus Ursinus College.
Men’s Rowing: The Shoremen varsity four advanced to the final in the varsity four with their performance at the Kerr Cup on Saturday, April 15th. The Champinships will take place on April 19th at the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championships in Lewisberry, Pa.
Women’s Rowing: The Shorewomen first varsity eight competed against Division I and II crew teams where they had a solid showing, missing a spot in the grand final of the overall varsity eight by three one-hundredths of a second. The second and third varsity eights competed in the Division III varsity eight, where the second varsity eight came in the second and the third varsity eight came in third.
WC will compete in the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championships on Saturday, April 29th in Lewisberry, Pa.
Sailing: The sailing team clinched a spot at the America Trophy (the MAISA Spring Co-Ed Dinghy Champinships) after coming in third-place among 18 teams at the Leroy Grant Trophy this weekend at St. Mary’s.
Skippers Alex Smith and Hannah Schmidt and crew Allison Cochran and Ellie Lienert helped WC place fifth in the A Division. For the B Division, skipper Matt McDermaid and crew Lindsey Arnstein placed third.
WC will compete in the Boston Dinghy Club Challenge Cup on Saturday April 22nd and Sunday April 23rd.
