Weekly Recap 4/1

All teams competed this past week and many of them started April on the right foot.

Men’s Lacrosse: After dropping the first game of the week to Ursinus College, the Shoremen won their first conference game of the season on Saturday, April 1st versus McDaniel College. With the win, WC sits at 1-2 in Centennial play.

Sophomore Kevin Trapp led the team in scoring on Saturday, scoring three goals. Junior Peter Jacobs gave out three assists. Junior goalie Ben Flood has a career-high 22 saves in the win.

The Shoremen will have a week off to prepare for their conference game at Muhlenberg College on April 8th.

Women’s Lacrosse: The Shorewomen won their one and only game of the week versus McDaniel following the men’s game. In a game where the team never trailed, they used a 7-0 run in the second half to pull forward.

Sophomore Kristy Grovom led the team with 5 goals, while her classmate Cecily Docktor led in the assists category, dishing out 3. 

WC will host Ursinus in a 7 p.m. conference game on Wednesday, April 5th at home. 

Softball: WC took on Ursinus College on Thursday, March 30th, sweeping the Bears to jump to 2-2 in conference play. The double header versus Gettysburg is pushed back to be played on Sunday, April 2nd.

Junior Taylor Harcum pitched a complete game in the first game, giving up six hits and just two runs. Sophomore Maddie Bennett finished things off in the second game, pitching a complete game as well. Bennett gave up four hits and just three runs.

Baseball: The Shoremen took on Salisbury University on Thursday, where they lost a 3-1, low-scoring affair. Their double header, versus Franklin and Marshall College which was scheduled for Saturday, is pushed back to Sunday.

Senior Charlie Meder went 2-4 versus Salisbury, where he passed the 100 hit mark.

Women’s Rowing: The Shorewomen, who are tanked 11th in the country, won both the first and second varsity eights versus St. Mary’s and La Salle.

WC won the first varsity eight in 8:43.46. The second varsity eight was 8:43.21. The team will compete in the Knecht Cup on April 8th and 9th in New Windsor, New Jersey.

Men’s Rowing: The team finished second in two races, with the first varsity eight coming in at 7:58.40. The second varsity eight finished in 9:07.44.

The Shoremen will also compete in the Knecht Cup on April 8th and 9th along with the Shorewomen.

Men’s Tennis: The best start in seven years was accomplished after WC swept McDaniel 9-0 on Saturday, April 1st. 

Senior Jeremy Novick and junior Luke Weaver opened up a double sweep with an 8-0 win. Novick also won his singles match.

WC will return on April 5th versus Haverford in a conference match.

Women’s Tennis: Like the men’s team, the Showomen also swept McDaniel 9-0 on April 1st, putting them at 3-0 in their conference matches.

Junior Krista Filiopoulos and sophomore MP Hubert were 8-1 winners in their conference match while juniors Julie Lazer and Rachel Martinez won their doubles match as well. Sophomore Mariah Thomas won her singles match to help seal the match.

The Shorewomen will host Haverford on April 4th for a home Centennial Conference match.
