Weekly Recap 3/25

March 26, 2017
Overtime thrillers, a grand slam, and much more went on this week for the spring teams.

Baseball: The Shoremen went 2-1 this week after splitting two games with Wesley and then defeating Gallaudet University on Saturday.

In Saturday’s win, senior Charlie Meder broke things open with a grand slam in the 4th inning, where WC totaled for 6 runs.

“Bases loaded, less than 2 outs, I’m just up there trying to put a ball in play and score a run for us,” Meder said. “Fortunately I got a fastball on the inside part and was able to put a good swing on it.”

WC will open up their conference play on Saturday, April 1st when they play a doubleheader at Franklin and Marshall.

Softball: WC dropped both two close games to Muhlenberg College on Saturday. The two games came within no more than 3 runs with plenty of opportunities for the Shorewomen.

In the first game, junior Elaina DiPrimio went 3-4. Following DiPrimio in the second game was freshman Leah Stokes who went 2-3 with a triple.

With an 0-2 record in conference play, WC has a good opportunity to even their record on Tuesday when they play Ursinus in a double header. Last season, WC swept the Bears.

Women’s Lacrosse: The Shorewomen went 1-1 on the week with a home win versus St. Mary’s College of Md. and then dropped an overtime game versus Dickinson College.

In the conference opener versus Dickinson, WC rallied back from being down five goals, which forced overtime. Senior Katherine Vincent led the team with three goals in the game.

WC will continue their conference porting on the season on Saturday, April 1st with a 3 p.m. home game versus McDaniel College.

Men’s Lacrosse: The Shoremen dropped the game versus Dickinson College, but didn’t go down without a fight. The Red Devils held a 6-2 halftime lead, which was cut down to 9-8.

Junior Tyler Powers, sophomore Kevin Trapp both scored three goals in the game. Junior goalie Ben Flood collected 6 saves.

WC will host #14 Ursinus on Wednesday, and then McDaniel on Saturday (Senior Day). The game versus Ursinus will start at 7 p.m. with the game on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.

Men’s Tennis: WC hosted Centre College on Monday and picked up a 6-3 win. With the win, WC pushed their record to 5-1 on the season.
