Weekly Recap 3/18

Our teams took advantage of Spring Break by traveling down south to compete.

Lacrosse: The Shoremen were the sole Spring program to stay put as they hosted Salisbury University in the annual ‘War On The Shore’ game. WC was unable to capture a victory as they went on to lose 14-1. 

Sophomore Nick Boyles scored the goal for WC coming off an assist from senior Alex Washington. 

WC will return to action on Saturday, March 25th when they open their conference schedule by visiting #11 Dickinson College, which will start at 3 p.m.

Women’s Lacrosse: The Shorewomen traveled down to Hilton Head, S.C. where they defeated Albright College 10-7. WC then hosted Randolph-Macon on Saturday, March 19th, completing the winning week with an 18-11 victory.

In South Carolina, the scoring distribution was even as four Shorewomen each scored 2 goals. Those four include junior Morgen Moran, junior Rachel Shaw, freshman Aubrey Robinson, and senior Katherine Vincent.

Vincent went on to score 5 goals and 2 assists versus Randolph-Macon. 

WC will host St. Mary’s College of Md. this Monday, March 20 for a 6 p.m. home match.

Softball: WC traveled to Kissimmee, Florida and went 5-5 during their five day trip. The Shorewomen went 1-1 everyday of that trip.

The team finished off their trip on a high note, defeating Farmindale State 10-1 in their first game of the finale. Sophomore Maddie Bennett went 4-4, with a career high four RBI’s. Senior Erin Spinden went 2-3 with two RBI’s. Junior Allyson Meil went 3-5 while scoring three runs.

With a 10-10 record, the Shorewomen will start their conference portion of their schedule this Saturday, March 25th when they travel to Muhlenberg College for a double-header which will start at 1 p.m.

Baseball: The WC Baseball team went down to Fort Meyers, Florida to play 6 games where they went 4-2. 

Leading the way for WC in those 6 games included freshman Max Hammond, junior Wes Robertson, junior Matt Tancredi, and sophomore Aaron Barclay. Hammond hit .455 in his 11 at bats. Robertson hit .450 in his 20 plater appearances. Tancredi hit or .444 in his 9 at bats, and Barclay hit for .429 in his 21 at bats.

WC will play Wesley on Tuesday, March 21st, and then return home Wednesday and Thursday when they host Gallaudet and Wesley.

Women’s Tennis: The Shorewomen played three matches in Orlando, Florida where they went 2-1. The first match versus Berry College was a 7-2 victory. The momentum carried over vesus Bloomsburg as they went on to win 6-3. WC finished the trip off versus Mo. Western State, dropping the match 8-1.

In the first match versus Berry, juniors Julie Lazer and Rachel Martinez completed an 8-1 win. 

WC will play Centre at home, this Monday, March 20 at 4 p.m.

Men’s Tennis: The Shoremen went 2-1 in their trip to Orlando, Florida. WC defeated Berry College 5-4, lost to Bloomsburg 5-4, and finished out strong versus Illinois Wesleyan 9-0.

In the victory versus Illinois Wesleyan, junior Justin Panepinto and senior Zack Novick won their doubles match 8-6. Senior Jeremy Novick and junior Luke Weaver won their match 8-2.

The Shoremen also host Centre at home, this Monday, March 20 at 2 p.m.
