Weekly Round Up 3/2
Men’s Lacrosse: The Shoremen went on to defeat #15 Washington and Lee in their home opener on Saturday, Feb. 25, with an 11-9 victory. The momentum carried over on Wednesday, March 1, when they traveled to St. Mary’s College and picked up a 14-8 win.
In the game versus Washington and Lee, junior Tyler Powers scored 3 goals and sophomore Casey Grieves gave out 4 assists. Junior goalie Ben Flood collected 9 saves.
The Shoremen travel to Frostburg St. on Saturday, March 4 for a 1 p.m. start. They will return home on Wednesday, March 8 to host Coast Guard at 4 p.m.
Women’s Lacrosse: In a close 10-9 victory, the Shorewomen sent their fans home happy on Friday, Feb. 24. The big story of the game was when senior attacker Katherine Vincent collected her 100th career goal. She became the 13th Shorewomen to score 100 all-time goals.
Vincent had four goals while sophomore attacker Kristy Grovom scored two. Senior goalie Haylee Solomon had six saves.
WC will be back in action on Saturday, March 4 when they travel to Lynchburg College for a 1 p.m. start.
Softball: To open their season, WC traveled down to Cary, N.C. where they faced four opponents, going 2-2. To start the weekend, the Shorewomen defeated North Carolina Wesleyan 8-1, and Salem 3-2, on Saturday, Feb. 25.
The following day, WC lost to William Peace 5-4, and to Greensboro, 8-4.
In the first game of the season, sophomore Maddie Bennet hit a three-run home run and picked up the in inside the circle for the second game.
The second day games consisted of Bennet going 3-4 in the first game versus William Peace. In the final game for the weekend, junior Gabrielle Edwards hit her first career home run.
Baseball: The Shoremen suffered two close games versus Wiedner College to open the season, where they dropped the first game 4-2, and the second 8-3. They then traveled to Salisbury where they lost another close game, 7-6.
Versus Widner, sophomore Aaron Barclay went 2-3 while scoring a run. Senior Evan Hirschbaum homered in the second game.
WC will have a busy weekend as they host Dean on Saturday, March 4 at noon. They then will travel to Hood College the following to which will be a double header slated to start at noon.
