The Pride of Lions International
Robyn Moore, an accountant in the Washington College Business Office for whom community service is second nature, has received the highest award bestowed by the Lions Clubs International Foundation. In recognition of her volunteer work on behalf of the Kent County Lions Clubs, in December she received the Melvin Jones Fellowship named for the international club founder; the local Lions Clubs of Betterton-Still Pond, Chestertown, Galena, Millington, and Rock Hall collectively made a $1,000 donated to the international organization as a tribute to Moore’s humanitarian work.
As the volunteer executive director of the annual Christmas Basket program run by the Lions Clubs of Kent County, Moore has donated more than 1,200 hours to assisting economically disadvantaged families.
Much of the work is accomplished before teams of volunteers come to pack boxes. Moore coordinates canned food drives with area schools, mails out donation letters and acknowledgement letters, and manages the names and addresses of recipients based on recommendations from schools, churches, and the Kent County Department of Social Services.
This December — Moore’s 16th helping out with the Christmas Basket project — 525 boxes of food and toys were distributed to needy families throughout Kent County.
