Weekly Sports Recap: 12/9/16

It was an eventful week for all programs. Read more to find out about the recent success.

Men’s Basketball:

The Shoremen matched last season’s win total with a 91-90 double-overtime victory over Gettysburg College on Dec. 3. The suspenseful afternoon contained 18 lead changes and 11 ties, with five WC players scoring in double digits. Senior James Drury and Junior Joey Shleton both had 17 points. Freshman Nick Schmelzer went 5-7 from behind the arc, scoring 16 points.

WC then traveled to McDaniel College on Wednesday, Dec. 7, where they lost 75-64. WC will continue their season on Friday, Dec. 9 with a home game versus Elizabethtown at 7 p.m. Shortly after, they will host Haverford the following day for a 4 p.m. tip.

Women’s Basketball:

The Shorewomen led the entire game in a 70-61 victory versus Gettysburg College following the men’s victory. Senior Ali Grundy had 20 points and six rebounds. Freshman Cassidy Quattro notched 16 points.

The success continued on Wednesday, Dec. 7 when the team earned a road victory versus Bryn Mawr, defeating The Owls 68-39. WC will host Haverford on Saturday, Dec. 10 for a 2 p.m. tip.

Swimming:

The Shoremen placed 2nd of 11 teams in the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Dec. 3. Meanwhile, the Shorewomen, placed 2nd of 14 teams.

Both teams are competing on Friday, Dec. 9 versus York College.
