Sophie Kerr Announcement Moves to Baltimore

WC has moved this year’s Sophie Kerr Prize announcement to Baltimore’s Enoch Pratt Free Library. The May 14 celebration in the library’s Central Hall at 7:30 p.m. will be free. The public is invited to enjoy remarks by Michael Dirda, the Pulitzer Prize-winning book critic at the Washington Post, readings by up to five prize finalists, and the unveiling of the winner’s name. Thousands Follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Ball

They danced until their ruby slippers fell off! The night of February 23, 2013, thousands of alumni, students, faculty, staff and 1782 members celebrated at this year’s Birthday Ball: The City of Oz. Some guests attended in costume, including President Reiss who dressed as Professor Marvel and First Lady, Elisabeth, who came as an evil witch. H. Louise Amick ‘69 to Teach Last Class at WC

Professor Amick will retire from WC at the end of this academic year after 23 years of teaching in the Department of Mathematics. She received the Lindback Award fort Distinguished Teaching at Lincoln University in 1982 and the Alumni Association Award for Distinguished Teaching at WC in 1995. Professor Amick will be lauded with the Alumni Citation at Commencement 2013. Congratulate her during Alumni Weekend 2013and take her last class–“A Simple Introduction to Complex Numbers”–onJune 1, at 10:00 a.m. in Smith Hall.
