CHESTERTOWN, MD—The Washington College Community Concert Series continues Saturday, April 13, with a performance by the acclaimed pianist Inna Faliks. The concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Decker Theatre. Tickets, available at the door, are $15 per adult, $5 for youth ages 18 and under, and free for Washington College students with a valid ID.
The renowned Ms. Faliks will perform pieces from classical and contemporary composers, including Rodion Shchedrin’s Basso Ostinato, Beethoven’s Polonaise in C Minor, Op. 89 and Sonata in F minor, Op. 57, and Robert Schumann’s poetic Davidsbündlertänze, Op. 6. Another composition on the program, Ljova Zhurbin’s “Sirota” for piano and historical recording, was written exclusively for Faliks.
The Ukrainian-born pianist has been lauded by The New Yorker for her “adventurous” and “passionate” musicianship. Called one of the most exciting and poetic artists of her generation, Faliks has performed in venues throughout the world since her debut at age 15 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. As a performer, she is fascinated by new or obscure music and has premiered pieces such as “13 Ways of Looking at the Goldberg” and music by Russian poet Boris Pasternak.
Faliks has been honored at numerous competitions, including the prestigious Hilton Head International Competition, and is winner of an International Pro Musicis Award and first prize in the Yale Gordon Competition at the Peabody Conservatory. She is the founder and curator of the award-winning interdisciplinary series “Music/Words” at the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council in New York City and teaches piano at the Herb Alpert School of Music at UCLA.
