Cherry Tree

A National Literary Journal

Issue 6 has gone to print!

Date: January 14, 2020
On Monday, January 13, we sent our newest issue to the printers—and she’s another beaut. So it’s time for our annual cover art reveal!

The art on the cover of Issue 6 is a painting called “Paradise Between 1, 2016,” by artist (& Haverford College professor) Hee Sook Kim. We just love the buoyant layers of this brightly-colored painting, which at times recalls the Magic Eye books of the 1990s: hidden images emerging from the mesmerizing patterns. And, of course, we feel that the writing within this issue has some of those same qualities: the many layers of meaning and feeling carried by the brightness and contrast of the spellbinding lyricism that commands the reader’s attention from start to finish. But if you look long enough, what other stories are there blooming in the background that you didn’t notice the first time?

Inside the issue is brand-new poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and literary shade from Diannely Antigua, Destiny O. Birdsong, Mirande Bissell, Jennifer Bullis, Lauren Camp, Hannah Cohen, Bailey Cohen-Vera, Jason B. Crawford, Raymond Deej, Dante Di Stefano, Jen Stewart Fueston, Jeannine Hall Gailey, David Groff, Christian Gullette, Steve Henn, Korey Hurni, Ashley M. Jones, Kasey Jueds, Toshiya Kamei, Genevieve Kaplan, Christen Noel Kauffman, Olivia Kingery, Mingpei Li, Alice Liang, Sarah Lyons-Lin, Angie Macri, Ann Stewart McBee, Megan Neville, Afopefoluwa Ojo, JJ Peña, Robert L. Penick, Emilia Phillips, Caroline Plasket, Alec Prevett, Sara Quinn Rivara, Sara Ryan, F. Daniel Rzicznek, Martha Silano, DeAnna Stephens, Anne Dyer Stuart, Yerra Sugarman, Ojo Taiye, Adam Tavel, Alex Thomas, Yasumi Tsuhara, Elsa Valmidiano, Hannah VanderHart, April Wang, and Art Zilleruelo. Coming in at 173 pages, this new issue is packed with incredible work from both American and international writers that will bring you back for several re-reads.
