Victoria Cline ’19
I’ll always remember the class I had with [Adam] Goodheart and [Chestertown] Mayor Cerino my first year at Washington College. Twelve or so of us had our First Year Seminar writing class on the Chester in canoes! The weather was absolutely gorgeous, and the river was sparkling in the sunlight. I imagined Water Street and downtown as a bustling port and summer vacation destination in the 17- and 1800s.
“Making place” is how an area becomes meaningful to a person, moving from just a space to a place with purpose and a personal connection. For me, the river flows, just as history flows, through the veins of Chestertown and Washington College.
