On Feb. 12, 2019, Charles Fairbanks came to Washington College to present his documentary ‘The Modern Jungle’

Following this screening, Fairbanks gave a lecture to students and staff about creating documentaries that accurately depict cultural societies through ethnography research.

Using film that existed as early as the 60’s, Fairbanks showed the progression of documentary filmmaking throughout the decades. By the end of the talk, Fairbanks concluded that no documentary exists that can accurately portray a culture without some sort of inaccuracy of representation.
