This year, Birthday Ball’s theme was “Journey to Atlantis.” The dance continues to be a favorite staple of student life. As part of a new initiative, SEB’s Birthday Ball was this year hosted in conjunction with PEAC, as part of their second PEAC Week. PEAC Week began on the 21stwith students signing a Birthday Ball Wellness Pledge, which encouraged safe drinking and making healthy choices. Other events from PEAC Week included a Jam Session in Corsica Hall. A Pre-Birthday Ball Barbeque was included in PEAC Week, but was cancelled because of the weather.

The Ball itself was held in the Johnson Fitness Center, which was decorated to look like an underwater paradise: decorations included jellyfish hanging from the ceiling, a mural of an underwater seafloor, and a Poseidon stand-up prop. The dance floor was in the middle of the gym, and featured rotating strobe and black lights. There were couches and table-seating for party-goers who needed breaks from the festivities. A variety of snacks and foods were provided, including the ever-popular crab dip. For attendees twenty one and over, there was a cash bar area.

President Kurt Landgraf gave a toast to officially kick off the dance, and wished party-goers a fun and safe Birthday Ball.
