Tuesday, February 6th a 4:30PM, Kim Zarins came to the Literary House to read from her book, Sometimes We Tell the Truth. Her novel is a modern retelling of Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales in a modern setting. Jeff, the anxious narrator, mediates the tales of each of his fellow classmates while on a bus trip. The tales pull from Chaucer’s original story and put a creative and brilliant spin on them. When an audience member asked Kim Zarins “why [she] decide[d] to reinvent the Canterbury Tales?” Zarins answered, “I like the play that can result from mashing together two different time periods. The 14th century has already been done, this feels fresh but true to the text.”
