On Wednesday, February 7th, 2018, the Goldstein Program held an immigration reform talk about the future of DACA (the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), which has been a pressing political issue recently. The event featured two speakers, Estela Vianey Ramirez, the Assistant Director of the Chesapeake Multicultural Resource Center in Easton, MD, and Ivette Salarich, who now serves as the Vulnerable Populations Assistance Project Manager for Mid Shore Pro Bono in Centerville, MD. Jane Hardy, the co-president of The League of Women Voters of Kent County, curated the event and introduced George Shivers, a former professor of Spanish and Latin American literature and culture at Washington College.

Shivers introduced Estela Vianey Ramirez and Ivette Salarich. Ramirez spoke about the DACA legislation and reform, along with how Dreamers like herself have been affected by the reforms. Salarich then gave her take on each part of President Trump’s proposed DACA legislation, and provided some deeper insight on specific immigration issues. The event ended with a productive Q&A.
