EROS, SGA, TANGO, and the Intercultural Ambassadors sponsored the annual Drag Ball in the Egg at Hodson. The event was a celebration of diversity and inclusivity, focusing on gender expression and presentation. Students were encouraged to – and did! – dress in drag, and danced well into the night. A variety of pride-themed snacks and drinks were provided, including rainbow-sprinkle cookies and cupcakes.
Drag Ball also featured a drag show performed by Anita Mann and Karyn Thomas, drag performers from Delaware. After the show, students were able to ask questions of the performers – an important inter-generational moment of contact, conversation, and reassurance for young members of Washington College’s LGBTQ+ community.
EROS President John Baker ’18, said, “This is a traditional EROS event that has unfortunately fallen through the past couple years, but … [was] finally [brought together again]. Drag Culture is very predominant among LGBTQ+ people, though it is just more than entertainment. I wanted this event to also be informational to the audience about the performers with their life of drag, what it means to them, why they do it, what they have to go through, [and more].”
