Weekly Recap 10/1
The Shorewomen traveled to McDaniel College on Friday where they picked up a 7-1 conference victory. The seven goals scored were the most ever in a game versus the Green Terror.
Scoring was distributed evenly for WC, with seven different players scoring one goal. Freshman Kailyn Brandt was one of those players while also tallying two assists.
Most notably, senior Liza Slavin scored her first career goal just two years after her brain tumor diagnosis. You can watch her goal here.
With a 3-1 conference record, WC will push forward with a 4 p.m. conference game on Wednesday versus Swarthmore College. The team then travels to Dickinson College on Saturday for an 11 a.m. start.
The team split their tri-match at McDaniel where they lost to the Green Terror but finished the day on a high note with a win over Marywood. With 13 wins on the season, WC has already surpassed last year’s win total of 12.
In the win, senior Taylor Horan surpassed 3,000 career assists, making her just the second player in Shorewomen history to reach that mark. Horan had a match-highs of 21 assists in the first game and 26 in the second.
The Shorewomen host Marymount (Va.) on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. non-conference match. The team will then travel to Dickinson College for a 12 p.m. conference match.
WC started the week with a 6-1 win over Bryn Mawr and wrapped September up with a game at McDaniel which ended in a 5-1 loss. With the win on Tuesday, the Shorewomen snapped a 38-match winless streak in conference matches.
In the win versus Bryn Mawr, junior Lindsay Russell had one goal and assisted on two. Besides the goal from Russell, all of the scoring for WC was distributed evenly. Senior Maribeth Harrington scored one goal and also had one assist.
WC will host Swarthmore on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. conference match. The team will then travel to Dickinson which is slated to start at 2 p.m.
The Shoremen traveled to McDaniel College where they dropped dropped a 1-0 game to the Green Terror.
WC totaled for nine shots with four of them being on goal. Sophomore Griffin Bull was able to get off a team-high three shots.
With a few days off, the team will head to Dickinson College on Friday for a 6 p.m. conference match.
Three student-athletes competed at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships this past weekend. Senior Luke Weaver advanced to the semifinals in B2 singles.
Juniors Chris Salisbury and Jake Sandler also competed over the weekend. The two advanced to the second round in Championship Doubles.
WC will take the momentum into the off-season as they prepare for their spring season slated to start on February 24th.
WC competed at the Jesuit Interconference where they finished 11th of 15 teams.
Skipper Will Sunkler and crew Allison Cochran finished 11th in the A Division. Skipper Andrew Houghton and crew Bridgette Hindt also finished 11th in the B Division.
The team will compete for the Moody Trophy next weekend.
