Weekly Recap 9/24
The Shorewomen hosted Johns Hopkins on Saturday where the game ended in a one goal loss (3-2), to the 6-2 Blue Jays.
WC tallied two goals in the first half coming off the stick from freshman Kailyn Brandt. Junior Emily Pantazes followed with a goal of her own. With the goal from Pantazes, she now has a team-high of 6 on the season.
With a 2-1 record in Centennial Conference play, WC will be on the road in their two games next week. They start with a Wednesday evening game at Gwynedd Mercy which is set for 6 p.m. They then travel to McDaniel on Friday for a 7 p.m. conference contest.
WC made it two consecutive wins with a 1-0 road victory at Ursinus.
Scoring the lone goal of the game for WC was junior Kyle Gaeffke, who found the back of the goal in the 22nd minute. Gaeffke’s goal was assisted off of a long throw which came from junior Brian Graham.
Junior Josh Samuels collected two saves in the win as WC held a 12-9 advantage in shots.
The Shoremen will play two conference matches this week, both at 4 p.m. They host #16 Johns Hopkins on Wednesday and then travel to McDaniel College on Saturday.
The Shorewomen kept the 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins Blue Jays to just two goals in a conference match that ended in a 2-0 defeat.
WC was able to get off six total shots with three of them being on goal. The Shorewomen also were awarded 3 corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Annalie Buscarino totaled three saves.
WC will play two road matches this week, starting with a Tuesday night conference match versus Bryn Mawr at 4 p.m. The Shorewomen then finish up the week with an 11 a.m. game at McDaniel on Saturday.
The Shorewomen competed in the Knights Invitational on Friday and Saturday, where they split their two matches both days. The two wins for WC came against SUNY Canton (3-2) and New Rochelle (3-0).
Over the weekend, senior Taylor Horan mounted up her assist total to 2,937 in her career. She is now just 63 away from becoming just the second WC player to collect 3,000 or more career assists.
WC will carry their 12-3 record into a home conference match versus Johns Hopkins on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The team then travels to McDaniel on Saturday where they will face McDaniel at 12 p.m. and then Marywood at 2 p.m.
To get their season started, the Shorewomen had a strong performance at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, going 19-12 combined in their singles and doubles matches. Freshman Sarah Bruno shined, going unbeaten in her singles and doubles match.
Senior Krista Filiopoulous went 2-1 in her singles matches. Juniors Kiran Pant and Mariah Thomas went 2-1 in the No. 2 doubles.
WC will take the positive performance into the offseason as they prepare for their next match against Delaware State on March 2nd.
The team put on another impressive showing as they finished seventh out of 16 programs at the MAISA Central Fall Qualifier. With their seventh-place finish, they qualify for the Luce Regatta, where they will compete for a spot at the War Memorial, the MAISA Fall Co-Ed Championships.
Junior Paul Hart led WC to a seventh-place finish in A Division. Sophomore Andrew Vernon led WC to 10th place in the B Division.
WC will compete in the Jesuit Interconference this upcoming weekend.
