NEW DATE: Walking a Mile in Their Shoes
CHESTERTOWN, MD—Hairy male legs will again wobble down Washington Avenue in red high
heels to raise awareness about sexual violence when Washington College’s 5th Annual
Walk a Mile In Her Shoes event gets underway Monday, April 7. The event, which also
raises funds for local counseling and the Rape Crisis Center at For All Seasons, Inc.,
will begin at the Casey Academic Forum on the College campus at 4:30 p.m. and end
at Fountain Park at about 5:20 p.m.
During the event, men don red high heels and, together with friends and supporters, walk from the College to Fountain Park, symbolically walking a mile in the shoes of sexual assault victims around the world. Although heels will only be provided for men who register for the event, everyone is encouraged to walk with them in a show of support. The public also is invited to be at Fountain Park to greet the participants and cheer their completion of the walk.
Advance registration is required, although the $5.00 fee can be paid the day of the event. The fee covers the entry fee, shoe “rental” and a free t-shirt to wear during the event. To register or for more information, contact Janett Matthews at 410-810-5737 or Jmatthews2@washcoll.edu by end of day Monday, March 31.
There is also information on the event’s Facebook page.
