Kaiden Williams, Class of 2019, has embraced his position at Washington College as a student-athlete and proud member of the Men’s Basketball team. Now a junior, Williams has made the most of his experiences at WC and plans to take his lessons learned with him into the next step: dental school.

Junior Kaiden Williams has embraced his position at Washington College as a Biology major and athlete on the basketball team, striving for success in both of these departments. For Kaiden, the whole experience he receives at WC is the most important aspect to his academic and athletic career. “My decision to come here was primarily because it provided me with the ability to play the game I love while also getting a top shelf education,” Kaiden said.

During his first visit to WC, Kaiden noticed the quality relationships among students and immediately knew he wanted to spend his 4 academic years at an institution that valued this type of close-knit community.  “Everyone was genuinely happy to be here, and that really resonated with me,” he said.

After visiting again and getting the opportunity to spend some time with the men’s basketball team, he knew the players’ closeness and brotherhood was something he admired and wanted to be a part of. Each player looks out for their fellow teammates, making the team a place for community and family- just what Kaiden wanted.

The Shoremen of Washington College pushed Kaiden to develop from a young student-athlete into the successful role model and leader he is today. Now a Spring Semester junior, Kaiden has taken the time to develop his skills as a leader on the court and in the off-season. He has served as a mentor to his younger players, a position that he once looked up to as an underclassmen and has taken pride in doing.

The root of Kaiden’s motivation to be such a dedicated student and athlete is his desire to attend dental school post-graduation. With such a specific goal in mind, Kaiden is able to stay focused and remain on the track towards graduating from WC with an experience that will have shaped him into a well-rounded and hardworking student in the field.

“Early on in my time at Washington College I realized hard work leads to good results,” Kaiden said. He spends most of his time studying, going to labs, and playing in practices and games. When he is not on the court or in John S. Toll science center, he works as a member of the Biology Student Steering Community. Kaiden represents the WC Biology department for Open Houses and with guest speakers, aiming to showcase everything the Biology department offers to students.

Basketball Head Coach Aaron Goodman has high regards for Kaiden, applauding him in his pursuit of a career in dentistry while continuing to be a role model on the team for his younger teammates. “He has a very versatile role with us on the court and is asked to provide toughness and rebounding, as well as finish around the basket. Kaiden embraces his role and brings enthusiasm to practice and games,” Goodman said.  “He cares deeply about his teammates and he has been instrumental in the positive growth of our program.”

Kaiden will graduate in May of 2019. Until then, he will be spending most of his time with his teammates during this 2017-2018 basketball season and studying for his future in the field of dentistry.
