Switching Genders in Sixteenth-century French Devotional Poetry

Professor Jeff Kendrick’s talk explored how Marguerite de Navarre (1492–1549), Queen of Navarre and sister of King Francis I of France, foregrounds and nuances feminine spirituality in her devotional writings, and, specifically, how her texts give voice and authority to female speakers and serve as examples for women and men to follow.
