The Bus to Success

Several Washington College students pitched their business ideas to Startup Maryland, a state initiative to rally young entrepreneurs, supporters, and other innovation stakeholders.
The event was brought to Chestertown through the sponsorship of the Upper Shore Regional Council (USRC) and the College’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Program, which is part of the Center for Environment and Society. GIS program coordinator Stewart Bruce worked with Doris Mason, executive director of the USRC, to host the Startup bus at Washington College. The bus parked in front of the Casey Academic Center for the event, which included remarks from Startup Co-chairs Michael Binko and Julie Lenzer Kirk and ended with an outdoor reception. Business professor Joseph Bauer, who teaches a course on entrepreneurship, mentored the students on their business plans and their pitches.
