Sophie Kerr Lecture Series: A Poetry Reading by James Allen Hall
Date: 4:30pm EDT September 19, 2013
The recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment of the Arts and the New York Foundation for the Arts, he is delighted to join the English faculty at Washington College this fall.
James Allen Hall’s first book of poems, Now You’re the Enemy, won awards from the Lambda Literary Foundation, the Texas Institute of Letters, and the Fellowship of Southern Writers. Recent poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Best American Poetry, New England Review, American Poetry Review, and the Academy of American Poets Poem-A-Day website.
“Now You’re the Enemy is a brilliant exploration of the structure of feeling. This debut collection, in an astonishing sleight of hand, inflates representation in order to deflate the inner screen that provides both the darkness and the monsters.”
—Claudia Rankine, editor of American Poets in the 21st Century: The New Poetics
