The Rose O'Neill

Literary House

Alumni Reading and Wine Tasting

Date: 2:00pm EDT June 1, 2013

Eric Lorberer ’86 Returns for Alumni Weekend Poetry Reading at the Rose O’Neill Literary House.

“He took a vow of poetry,” someone once said of Eric Lorberer ’86.

His advice to students is this: “Write like crazy, write your heart out. Read like crazy and, for God’s sake, don’t worry so much about getting published. I think the anxiety of getting published really destroys some people. For students, especially, there will be time later. When you’re at a great place like WC, just soak in as much as you can, be as active as you can and the rest will come.”

Along with having a B.A. from Washington College, Lorbere holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He has published poems, essays, and criticism in numerous magazines and has been awarded a SASE/Jerome Fellowship for his writing. As the editor of Rain Taxi Review of Books, he is responsible for the voice and style that has brought the magazine widespread acclaim. Lorberer also is the director of the Twin Cities Book Festival, has served as a panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts, and speaks at conferences and literary festivals around the country as an advocate for independent publishing and literary culture.

Look for Eric’s full story in the upcoming Spring 2013 issue of the Washington College Magazine.
