Starr Center for the

Study of the American Experience

The Young Historians’ Conference

Date: July 14 - July 17

The Young Historians’ Conference gives high school students a behind-the-scenes look at the ways we make history-and a chance to discover how they can do it, too!

This year’s theme, History Off the Page: Making the Past Present, provides an introduction to the many ways of studying history beyond the printed word. (Don’t get us wrong—we still love books, too!) Together with WC’s Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience, you’ll perform hands-on work with original archival documents, conduct oral history interviews, explore historic buildings and neighborhoods, view the Chesapeake landscape from the deck of a boat, and even travel to Washington, D.C. for a visit to the Smithsonian and a special tour of the U.S. Capitol.
