Veteran’s Day Celebration

This is a FREE concert. No tickets required.

The Naval Academy Band’s Superintendent’s Combo will present an evening of jazz at Washington College on Saturday, November 9 at 7:30 p.m. Under the direction of Chief Musician Colin Renick on saxophones and clarinet, the Superintendent’s Combo will perform a stroll through jazz history, from Dixieland to bebop, and from swing to fusion and funk. The program will intertwine the history of America’s music – jazz –with the history of the U.S. Navy in the 20th century, and will feature compositions by jazz legends Louie Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Thelonious Monk. Naval Academy Band concerts are free and open to the public.

The Superintendent’s Combo is the United States Naval Academy Band’s jazz combo designated to support the many events hosted by the Superintendent of the United States Naval Academy. The group regularly performs for local military officials and visiting dignitaries from around the globe at the Superintendent’s residence, Buchanan House, and around the Naval Academy.

Under the musical direction of Chief Musician Colin Renick, the Superintendent’s Combo also performs public concerts in and around Annapolis. The group has appeared at The Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage, the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire Jazz Festival, the Frederick Festival of the Arts, and at annual summer concert series throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Additionally, the combo and the Academy’s Midshipmen Action Group (MAG) have developed a dynamic educational outreach program that blends the experienced, world-class musicianship of the USNA Band members with the enthusiasm for volunteer service of the Brigade of Midshipmen.
