Bio

William Strong Bradford is a general surgeon with a solo practice in rural North Carolina. Since winning the Sophie Kerr Prize for his collection of poems and short stories, Dr. Bradford continues to enjoy good literature and still writes poetry and fiction. After graduating with a dual degree in English and Spanish, he completed the premed program at the University of Maryland, graduating in the top quarter of his class.

While pursuing his medical degree at a national university in the Dominican Republic, he conducted missionary work on the border of Haiti. He has published two medical articles on conch divers in the Dominican Republic related to decompression sickness and documented the first case of dysbaric osteonecrosis in that country.

The father of two is a strong believer in the liberal arts, crediting his own undergraduate experience with giving him the confidence to venture into uncharted waters.
