November 05, 2012
Alumnus and TimeLife Music veteran John Hall ’70 offered marketing career perspectives and advice to students on Monday, November 5 in the Egg, in a Working Lunch career talk.

Alumnus and marketing veteran John Hall ’70 spoke to about 40 Washington College students on Monday, November 5 in the Egg. In an informal talk, Hall recalled his days studying—and playing lacrosse—at Washington College in the late 1960s, and talked about his wide-ranging career in marketing and advertising, from working for Ogilvy and Mather, to Time-Life Music, to his own consulting career.

Drawing on his experience with managing many collaborative marketing projects, Hall offered three key lessons for effective leadership: “First , you’ve got to set the strategy. Second, you’ve got to get the right people and the right resources in place. And third, you’ve got to let them run.”

The Working Lunch series, co-sponsored by the Department of Business Management, the Center for Career Development, and the Office of Alumni Relations, brings alumni and professionals back to campus to offer career perspectives and advice to busy students. For more information about the series, contact Prof. Michael Harvey, Chair of the Department of Business Management.
