Theatre & Dance

Academic Requirements

The Major

(Students who declared a Theatre major or minor prior to FA ’15, please see the Department chair.)

A total of ten 4-credit classes are required for the major in Theatre:

101 – Drama, Stage and Society I

102 – Drama Stage and Society II

211 – Introduction to Acting

221 – Introduction to Directing

231 – Theatre Technology

241 – Introduction to Theatrical Design 

381 – Junior Seminar

One course from the History/Theory sequence (THE 201-209 and THE 301-309)

Two departmental electives

Theatre majors are expected to participate in co-curricular production activities. As part of that production work, majors must enroll in three different Theatre Practicum courses (THE 181-185) and four semesters of THE 400.

The Minor

A total of seven 4-credit classes are required for the minor in Theatre:

101 – Drama, Stage and Society I OR 102 – Drama Stage and Society II

211 – Introduction to Acting

221 – Introduction to Directing

231 – Theatre Technology

241 – Introduction to Theatrical Design

Distribution

Students electing Theatre as part of their Fine Arts distribution requirement may choose any course other than THE 181-185 and THE 400.
