Steel Band

Welcome to the home for steel band activities at Washington College!

The steel band program began in the Fall of 2012 with our first delivery of steel drums. This first ensemble was comprised of only 4 students, none of whom had ever played steel drums before coming to Washington College. The name “Steel Revolution” was coined in reference to George Washington and the band has continued to expand. You can learn more about the student ensemble here: Steel Revolution.

The Community Steel Band is back for a second summer in 2017! This ensemble is open to anyone in the area surrounding Chestertown who wants to learn to play (or continue to play) steel drums. No experience is necessary! For more information, click here: Community Steel Band.

Most of the steel drums used at Washington College have been crafted and tuned by Kyle Dunleavy. Please visit his site at: http://www.dunleavypans.com.
