  • 7:00pm: The Transatlantic Relationship in the Trump Era
    We had come to believe that Europe had been transformed into an unprecedented zone of peace and prosperity--always backed up by the American security guarantee, a deeper Transatlantic relationship, and shared Western values. President Donald Trump has called into question almost every tenet of U.S.-European relations. Is it just rhetoric or will Trump push through fundamental policy changes? What will the consequences be for countries on both sides of the Atlantic? How unique is the current state of friction within the western alliance? These are the questions that will addressed by Dr. Eric Langenbacher.

  • Dr. Muqtedar Khan 7:00pm: Global Security Challenges to the US and the World
    Moderator Dr. Muqtedar Khan and international scholars and experts of national security and international relations from five different countries will explore security challenges to the global order, as well as their own regions.

    Are there regional arrangements emerging to address these challenges? What can the United States do to face these new challenges? Does the world expect a significant change in US policy with change of administration in Washington? Finally, the panelists will make recommendations for the new Trump administration.

    All students, friends, and family are invited to learn about the senior capstone projects of senior International Studies majors.  Research highlights and one-on-one discussion of research methods and findings will take place over the course of the hour, with light refreshments served.

  • 5:00pm: Peace in Colombia: An End to the World’s Longest War?
    After decades of violence, is the Colombian civil war nearing its end? Colombia’s decades long civil war has pitted the government, paramilitaries, narcos, and several revolutionary groups against one another, killing more than 220,000 and displacing millions. After numerous failed attempts at peace, the government and Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) are nearing the end of their peace negotiations in Havana. Join esteemed expert on Colombian politics, Harvey Kline, for an illuminating discussion on the negotiations and prospects for peace in Colombia.
