Author of the critically acclaimed and best selling memoir, Jarhead, A Marine’s Chronicle of the Gulf War and Other Battles, Anthony Swofford served as a lance corporal in a U.S. Marine Corps Surveillance and Target Acquisition/ Scout-Sniper platoon during the 1991 Gulf War. After finishing his military service, he attended the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop and in time, wrote a book about his experience in the Marines. Published on the eve of the Iraq War, Jarhead reveals Swofford as an eloquent and
brazenly honest spokesman for the “grunt” who is as aware of the political realities of the war as he is of warfare’s seduction over him. His newest book, Hotels, Hospitals and Jails: A Memoir, was released in June 2012 by Hachette Book Group.
