Primary Uses

Edible Parts:  The entire dandelion plant can be consumed, excluding the flowers. Most commonly, the leaves can be used in salads either raw or cooked. The roots can be consumed as well, if they are roasted or boiled. It is best to eat the leaves in the spring season and the roots in the fall season.

Medicinal Uses:  Dandelion serves as a strong detoxifier. This helps most with liver and kidney functions. The dandelion can also be used as a diuretic, which enhances in the detoxifying properties.

Meaning of Scientific Name:  The scientific name, taraxacum officinale can be broken down into its two parts. Taraxacum refers to roots the can be used in medicine, additionally officinale refers to the medicinal properties of this plant.
