George's Grove

One of the most influential initiatives that SEA has undertaken in recent years is the establishment of a Campus Garden, fondly named George’s Grove.

What’s Growing?

For our first growing season, we decided to try our hand at a wide variety of crops, flowers, and trees!

Last Year’s Crops:

  • Tomatoes
  • Cucumber
  • Acorn Squash
  • Penguin Gourds
  • Black-Eyed Susans
  • Garlic
  • Chives

Permanent/Semi-Permanent Plantings:

  • Apple Trees (MacIntosh and Empire)
  • Fig Tree
  • Nectarine Tree
  • Peach Tree
  • Butterfly Bush
  • Grape
  • Hazelnut Tree
  • Goji Berry
  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries

More Than “Just” a Garden

George’s Grove isn’t just a place for vegetable to spring from the ground. Complete with a bench and an outdoor learning space, the garden also provides students with a natural and peaceful location to read, take photographs, or ponder the meaning of life.

The garden is soon to become the official home of the WC Composting Program! This initiative, run by students with the support of Buildings & Grounds, seeks to reduce waste by turning food prep scraps back into living plant matter via natural breakdown processes.
