Quail Mapping Project
The Quail Mapping Project was a cooperative effort between the Center for Environment and Society, the GIS lab, and Chino Farms to help identify and bring together supporters to bring quail back into the area.
In partnership with our parent center, the Center for Environment and Society, the Washington College GIS Lab participated in a project aimed to educate private landowners about small changes they could make to build quail habitats while still profiting from their land.
We took the plot data of private landowners who were supportive of the project and created a series of maps for them. The maps depicted specific areas in their land that could allow quail habitats to form naturally, with minimal changes to their farm practices, to hopefully entice a return of the once native species.
