Kappa Alpha

Muscular dystrophy is a hereditary disease, characterized by progressive muscle weakness. It prevents the movement of muscles.

Muscular Dystrophy Association

Kappa Alpha Orders’s national philanthropy is the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Muscular Dystrophy is a family of disorders characterized by the severe degeneration of muscle tissue. It literally means “faulty nutrition of muscles” and is characterized by the progressive wasting and weakening of healthy muscle tissue and is replaced by useless fat and hard fibrous tissue. The disease is considered largely hereditary. Some researchers believe that muscular dystrophy may be caused by a malfunctioning of the central nerves system and others believe that the disease begins within the walls of the muscle cells itself. KA supports the Muscular Dystrophy Association in the fight against muscular disease. As brothers, we raise money to build hope through research and advocate that true strength comes from the heart.Part of what we believe makes us such an amazing fraternity is our devotion to service. We do many events throughout the year, some of our biggest in the past and present have been; the annual Chicken Flip with the Kent County Lions club, Car bash, Spring Car Wash, and Spaghetti Dinner.

Movember & Other Service Projects

Fun fact: In fall 2013, KA took on a second philanthropy, called “Movember.”  Movember is a men’s health campaign that raises money for research and awareness.

Along with our yearly events we are always looking for other opportunities to help the community. Our chapter sponsors a highway whose roads we clean every other month. We take every opportunity to volunteer at the local elementary school and we encourage every brother to attend other philanthropy events unaffiliated with our chapter.

In summation the brothers of Kappa Alpha Order pride ourselves in our devotion to service and the extent in which we help the community. We are always looking for new events that we can be a part of and we strongly encourage members of Washington College to partake in bettering the community whenever possible.
