Leadership Scholars Program

Leadership Scholars Program

Named in honor of the College’s namesake General Washington, who has been called the American Cincinnatus, this innovative program highlights the importance of good character for civic life.

With a focus on American values and active participation in local service organizations, the Cincinnatus Leadership Scholars Program challenges undergraduates to participate in a structured program of civic and intellectual engagement.

Washington As the American Cincinnatus

Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus was a Roman citizen (519-438) who, heeding the call of his country, left his private career to serve Rome in her time of need. Upon preserving Roman liberties by his actions as dictator, he relinquished command and returned to his hearth. George Washington has long been called the American Cincinnatus.
