Black Studies

Giving voice to the Black experience.

The Black Studies program at Washington College offers an interdisciplinary study of the multifaceted history, culture and lives of people of African descent.

It enables students to discover, explore and research black culture from a local, national and global perspective. The program seeks to develop in its students the habits of analytical thought and clear communication, aesthetic insight, ethical sensitivity, and civic responsibility. Lectures, campus events, and off-campus activities sponsored by the program further encourage the entire campus and our community to engage in black community issues.
