Experience Kent County-Eastern Shore Style

Two Night Off Campus

The proximity of a small-town, rural landscape to the Chester River and Chesapeake Bay is a defining aspect of Chestertown and Kent County.

On this three-day, 1 over-night experience with Echo Hill Outdoor School (EHOS), you’ll have the opportunity to explore some of the unique possibilities Kent County has to offer-all while challenging yourself in ways you may have never expected.

The things you’ll do are diverse as the places you’ll visit. Throughout your stay at the EHOS campus, you can look forward to participating in a series of high-ropes elements on the Challenge Course, situated in a hardwood forest bordered by a freshwater swamp. The Giant’s Ladder Zipline, Giant Swing, and Alpine Tower will encourage you   to challenge your body and mind while discovering new things about yourself and your classmates.

You may find yourself touring different parts of Kent County, where you’ll meet a variety of personalities who call the area home. In making connections with these residents and learning about their livelihoods, you will also have the chance to share what brought you to Washington College and where your path may lead. Another day, you could be navigating the upper Chesapeake Bay on the historic Deadrise boats, Spirit and Twilight, before enjoying a traditional crab feast. Other activities include exploring the swamp by canoe and roasting marshmallows for s’mores over a beach bonfire. Whether on land or water, you’ll be engaging with local culture and the Eastern Shore in ways most Washington College students might never be able to do so.

EHOS provides all food and beverages during family-style meals in an on-campus dining facility. Students are required to bring sleeping bags and pillows for staying in rustic, air-conditioned dormitories. Detailed packing list, as well as mandatory health and registration forms, are available from EHOS for interested participants.
