About the Office

The Office of College Relations and Marketing is charged with communicating the mission, values, and news of Washington College. This includes print and Web publications for admissions, development, and the president's office as well as general communications and publicity support for programming and events. The office is located on the top floor of Bunting Hall. Read the report of the President's Marketing Task Force.

Meredith oversees the College Relations staff and is charged with guiding the College's marketing and branding messages. A part-time poet and harpist who has performed in the United States and Ireland, Meredith just released her first collection of poetry, Fishing Secrets of the Dead, a finalist in Word Press' First Book Competition. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in writing from Vermont College and Master of Arts in psychology from Washington College.

Shane develops the College Web site in accordance with the marketing communications plan. He combines his understanding of our campus community with technical proficiency and creative insight to foster our electronic communications. He specializes in standards-compliant CSS design. Justine, a 2007 WC graduate, brings a fresh perspective and a background in journalism and writing to the interesting features she develops for the College Web site. She also has a deep interest in Washington College history. Her senior capstone project examined student life at the school during the mid-twentieth century, and she has researched the lives and accomplishments of prominent WC alumni and documented the history of the school's now-defunct football team. An ardent college football fan, Justine maintains an entertaining, sometimes unconventional blog about the sport.

A Washington College alumna—twice, with a B.A. in music and an M.A. in psychology—Diane was born with a heart for the stage and an eye for design, and as Director of Creative Services she is the College's chief graphic designer and creative consultant. You can view some of her work in our poster gallery. When she's not overseeing the College's visual identity, you can find her directing or performing in the latest productions of Chestertown's Actor's Community Theatre, playing her fiddle or repeating phrases from her Italian language tapes. Marcia is Washington College's chief copywriter and editor. She also serves as editor-in-chief of the Washington College Magazine. With a vast repository of institutional knowledge, Marcia stays connected to the campus and is always on the lookout for good story material. For recent assignments she has gone undercover in the gym and at student parties, become a graduate student in the English department, and posed as a parent of a college applicant.

Eric serves as the College's communication link to local and national media, keeping the news machine well fed to maintain and enhance public awareness of Washington College's diverse events, activities, and noteworthy achievements. In his spare time he enjoys longbow archery, fencing, canoeing, and jazz collecting. Eric is the author of Chesapeake Bay in the Civil War, Chesapeake Rumrunners of the Roaring Twenties, and, forthcoming in 2007, The Spectral Tide: Great True Ghost Stories of the U.S. Navy.

Ray applies a fine art eye to his work as an institutional graphic designer, photographer and publication creator. His history of institutional design and publishing provides the foundation for contemporary, multimedia approaches to college marketing as he explores new ways to "visually" promote Washington College. Beyond producing effective and engaging designs for the college, Ray is busy creating and exhibiting his artwork at regional galleries and teaching drawing and painting classes.

Sarah oversees the daily operations of the College Relations office. She develops print publications in addition to leading the hometown release program. Before returning to Washington College, she worked as an advertising assistant at the Creative Marketing Group in Lancaster. She is an avid reader and spends much of her time delving into works from the nineteenth century, her favorite literary era. Contact Sarah about new stationery.
