Culture Night

Photographs by Gibson Anthony, Jr.
The college’s international community came together for an evening of music, dance, food, and fashion from around the world. International Culture Night, sponsored by the International Relations Club, showcases the talents of an international student population that has grown to 135 students. Despite cultural differences, students find common ground and have great fun by sharing traditions. Students from partner institutions as far-flung as Slovenia and Norway, others visiting from Brazil and Japan, and degree-seeking students from Sri Lanka, Argentina, and South Africa demonstrated that music, dance, and smiles are universal language

Clockwise from top: Sharmila Nagar and Violet Robinson model African garb; Osamu Takaki from Japan performed “Carnival of Venice” on trumpet; Charu Guliani, Sadia Hameed, Sumita Saha, and Supreet Sidhu demonstrate a modern Indian dance; Tomaz Onic played a polka and waltz medley from his native Slovenia on accordion; visiting students Caren Ducom (France) and Dewi Weber (Germany) share a moment after the show; Yuri Okada, a visiting student from Ferris University, welcomed spring with a Japanese song.
