Another school year has gone by and we have 322 brand new alumni from the Class of 2005. Please join us in welcoming them as our youngest members of the WC Alumni Association family!

We wish to recognize the unrelenting efforts of your class agents who help keep you in touch with WC and one another. We thank these leadership volunteers for their time and talent. We also thank our Reunion Chairs and Committee Members for their personal efforts which made this reunion a special celebration.

Luther Bergdall '38 helped Sidney Henes '38 celebrate his 88th birthday last January
Luther Bergdall '38 helped Sidney Henes '38 celebrate his 88th birthday last January. He and Sidney were roommates in West Hall in 1937 and '38. After WWII Army service, they chanced to meet on a street in San Francisco and have been neighbors and close friends ever since. Sidney was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) in the 1960s and believes he has survived longer than anyone else with the disease.

1950

Reunion Chair: Larry Brandenburg

Frank Kuhn
is active in orienteering as Vice President of the United States Orienteering Federation and chairperson of USOF Trail Orienteering Committee. He also serves as a member of the International Orienteering Federation Trail Orienteering Commission. He stays busy promoting orienteering in the US and internationally.

Wesley Seward
spends six months each year working at the Bonnie Springs Ranch in Red Rock Canyon, NV. He welcomes all alumni and their families to witness a hanging or a shoot-out, visit Boot Hill Cemetery or watch a blacksmith at work. On the lighter side, there's a petting zoo and duck pond, "three squares," and overnight accommodations.

Bill Tom
retired from the insurance business and is happy cruising to Europe, the Caribbean and Mexico. He plays golf in his spare time.

John Justis
writes that "he and his sister-in-law donated two islands, Jobes and Cedar, on Virginia's Eastern Shore to the Nature Conservancy to help preserve the Chesapeake Bay region." Mary Lee remarks: "What a generous gesture for the benefit of generations to come!"

Saylee Urig Kerr
writes that she and her husband, Bob, have taken up an interesting hobby—making furniture and violins (!) in the "Stradivarius" tradition. Mary Lee says "Saylee may be housebound, but certainly her creative spirit continues to soar."

Mary Lee Lincoln McIntyre
welcomed a fourth grandchild and second granddaughter in March. She plans to take the other granddaughter to a grandparent/grandchild camp in the Adirondack Mountains in August. As Class Agent, she says: "All of us appear to be enjoying retirement. Do let me hear from you. I'd be happy to hear your news as would others in our class."

Allan Hanifee
was re-elected to another six-year term on the Kent County Board of Education, is the legislative representative to the Maryland Association of Boards of Education, and is on the Board of Directors for the Kent County Chamber of Commerce. He continues as Executive Director of the UMSA. His wife, Barbara, is an OR nurse at the Chester River Hospital.

Anne Burris '48 (center) stopped off in San Diego, CA, after coming through the Panama Canal in January. She visited Lucretia Anderson McCain, whose ancestor was one of the original donors to WC, and Powell '49 and Louise Ames Harrison '48. They had a wonderful visit, especially to the San Diego Zoo.

says "2004 was a good year for my family and me. I was appointed to the Board of our great alma mater, we sold our business, I retired to New Hampshire with my wife supporting me at her jobs in DC, and my mother reached age 99 – AND everyone is healthy (chronologically adjusted). Looking forward to our 50th reunion in 2009."

Doug Gates
writes: "By the time this note is printed I hope to be out on the links reducing my handicap. Anyone know where Artie Schumann is? Isn't Chas doing a great job as class agent!"

and her husband, Mike, continue to volunteer at the local hospital and the Maryland State Archives. They are expecting their seventh grandchild any moment.

Not only is fun the name of the game locally, but wearing red and purple when we travel opens all sorts of conversations – for a 'people person' it can't get any better. The hat is a hard hat painted red and embellished with feathers and ostrich plumes."

Bob Keady
and his wife, Jody, are doing a lot of boating. He is Vice Commodore of Oak Harbor Yacht Club. They returned from a cruise across the South Pacific to Australia and New Zealand.

Kitty Yoder Eaton
got together in May with Holly Burke '62, Judie Baetzner Betz '63 and Lisa Ruedi '63. They celebrated two retirements and redecorated one house, did lots of talking and had fun. She continues to "dabble in jewelry-making - necklaces and earrings" and still knits.

Walter Marschner
and his wife, Catherine, are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year. He is a forensic appraiser.

Richard Karpe '70 with wife Mary
Richard Karpe '70 retired in December 2004 and is raising lambs on his "Lazy Rocking R Bar" ranch in New Mexico. Mary, his wife of four years, is working on her master's at UNM. They recently traveled to Brazil.

Lee Snyder Hinton
and her husband, Wesley, retired from active ministry in the Episcopal Church and she is now working part-time at Christ Church Cathedral in Cincinnati, OH. Son Christopher is working for the City News Desk in Chicago. Daughter Kathryn is working in Cincinnati and living at home for the time being. Son Jonathan has returned from almost five years in Japan and has gone to New York to look for a job. Lee and Wes took "a wonderful cruise" in the Galapagos Islands in January. They are hoping to be off to Alaska later this summer.

John Hall
retired early from Time, Inc. in 2004. He is now the Managing Director of U.S. CTJ, Inc., a worldwide marketer of entertainment products such as music and videos. He is also a Venture Partner in Plum Capital, a venture capital company that invests in early stage media companies. Most importantly, he is coaching his nine-year-old son, Jack's, basketball and lacrosse teams.

Peter Herbst
has been practicing law in Litchfield, CT, since 1973. His son, Peter, is in his last year of law school in Vermont and will be joining the firm. His son, Nate, is an Army linguist and his son, Ben, is a freshman at Colby College.

Eileen Rice Spillane
has retired from the local school system and loves it. One son is in high school. Her husband is still building. "I ran for State Senate this year against a 22-year veteran and lost with 42% of the vote. Ah, but elections roll around again in two years. Love to hear from old friends."

Clint Weimeister
greeted his first grandchild, Kylee Madison Weimeister, in November 2004. Clint and his wife, Caroline Wildflower, both active Quakers, moved two years ago to Port Townsend, a small town in the Pacific Northwest, where they joined a co-housing community and built a home.

Harold "Woody" Woodcock
has retired from a career in state and federal law enforcement. He and his wife, Holly, moved to a 500-acre tract of forest in Northern Maine. He built a log cabin and started a small-scale renewing tree farm. They also have five wonderful granddaughters.

1972

Michael Hoopes
was elected to the Parish Vestry and chairs the finance committee at his church. He and his wife, Laura, are looking forward to spending three weeks in China studying cranes at two nature reserves.

Patty Perry Viamonte
and her husband, Novy (Norberto) Viamonte '73, were very happy to learn that his company is listed on the New York Stock Exchange in the last WC Magazine. "If only this were true!!! Sadly, it's not. I teach English as a second language to corporate executives at companies such as Honda, Greif, and Emerson, including tutoring the President of Honda R&D North America, Mr. Hirohide Ikeno, and the Senior Vice President, Mr. Yoshikatsu Takeuchi, for almost four years. I also teach medical Spanish at local hospitals, colleges and universities. I will be teaching at Wuhan University in China for four weeks this summer."

1975

and her husband, Skip, completed the Seagull Century race in October 2004 on their tandem. They trained for the Century by cycling to work as often a possible.

Carole Strausburg Smith
has been working for a small pharmacy in Rosedale, MD, for the past 12 years. Her husband, Ralph, is a nurse anesthetist at Sinai Hospital. Their daughter, Rebecca, 11, keeps them busy chasing her to and from activities. "As a family, we enjoy our telescope and have seen some spectacular sights, including the close pass of Mars in August 2003, the transit of Venus in June 2004, and the last lunar eclipse in October 2004."

Jeff Timm
is on sabbatical serving as a senior Fulbright scholar, teaching a graduate course at the Center for Religious and Cross-cultural Studies at Gadjah Mada University in Jogjakarta, Indonesia. He will be there until July.

writes: "After more than ten years living 'in exile' outside of Chicago, my family and I have relocated to Manchester-By-The-Sea, MA. I am working in Boston. Our son, Edward, is a sophomore at WC and our daughter, Katherine, is finishing Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, NH."

started an auto restoration business creating hybrid autos and muscle cars that look 20th century and act 21st century. "I can't believe that I'm looking at colleges with my 17-year-old. Please e-mail me at showstopper@charter.net."

Deborah Gitt Stoll
and her husband, Eric '74, report that their son, Adam, is a freshman at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, PA, and their daughter, Rachel, is a junior at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in Indianapolis, IN, where she rows on the Indianapolis Rowing Center varsity crew. Deborah is the Complex Opportunities Manager at IBM and Eric is the Director of the Indianapolis Rowing Center.

Matt Morris
is living in Charlottesville, VA, with the wife and kids. He is currently an Office Manager at Morgan Stanley. "In my free time I am still enjoying kayaking, climbing and playing a little lacrosse. Interested in hearing from Tammy, Shneal, Scrumpy, and Leaguer. Give me a call!"

Jim Graham
was part of an article in the February issue of Photo District News, an internationally circulated photography magazine. He represented Delaware in 50 States 50 Photographers. He also worked on a June show at Hardcastles Gallery in Centreville, DE.

1982

has been touring the country performing comedy for clubs, conferences and colleges. He is in the process of producing and starring in a sitcom he wrote.

says he watched "in horror as my oldest son, Thomas, 15, grew taller than me, and my other son, Benjamin, turned 11. We celebrated our fifth year living in Boston. Blizzards aside, we enjoy New England."

Michele Lacher Groseclose
has been working for the Department of Defense for 19 years as an Information Systems Security Analyst. She has traveled to Brussels, Belgium; Madrid, Spain; Bonn, Germany; Prague, Czech Republic; and Cheltenham/London, England. She also spends time running to karate lessons, soccer games, ballet lessons, swimming lessons, school activities, preschool parties and doctors' appointments!

Jill DelConte Virnelson
completed her second educational master's degree in administration. She is Guidance Director in a large district serving pre-k through 12. "I am very busy with my three sons, Adam, 13, Brett, 10, and Zachary, 7."

Alumni from the 1960s
Steve Bender '76 is Senior Writer for Southern Living Magazine. He was the recipient of the 2005 Hortricultural Communications Award given by The American Horticultural Society. Steve is also editor of The Southern Living Garden Book, a comprehensive encyclopedia on Southern gardening. Steve recently represented WC at the inauguration of Birmingham-Southern University's president.

who heads up the tennis program at Sea Colony Resort, outside of Bethany Beach, MD, received a glowing write-up in an article in The Washington Post on March 2, 2005.

and his wife, Katie, recently had their second child. They reside in Cumberland, RI. He's looking for Sean Kennedy '89, John Bodnar '89 and/or John Sarris '89.

has been teaching in the Queen Anne's County, MD, school system since graduation. "I still enjoy my fifth graders—they are fun and love to learn! I am also involved with the WC Education Department since my school, Sudlersville Elementary, is a Professional Development School with the Education Department."

Jacqueline Collins Kilduff
and her husband, Jimmy, will be extending their overseas tour for 24 months. They will continue to work at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers. "I am the Entertainment Director and Jimmy works for USANATO as an IT Specialist. We will be home for a visit this summer and look forward to seeing Tam Braunstein '91 and Jen Jefferson '91."

Megan Metcalfe Thornton
is teaching in Surrey, England. She hosted the English version of the Toast to George Washington in February.

Brian Gimelson
has two successful companies: Delaware Valley Mortgage, which he co-founded and serves as President and CEO, and Sterling Financial Investment Group, where he works as a branch manager and stockbroker. He relocated the offices for both companies to Fort Washington, PA, where he lives. "While Washington didn't found any colleges here, his troops camped across the street from my offices! I can't seem to get away from the guy!"

Raph Koster
recently published his first book, A Theory of Fun for Game Design, to widespread critical acclaim. You can visit the book's website at www.theoryoffun.com. He still works as Chief Creative Officer for Sony Online Entertainment and is in frequent demand as a speaker all over the world. He and his wife, Kristen Johnson Koster '90, live in San Diego with their two kids.

and her husband, Kevin, live in Denton with their beautiful daughters, Shiloh, 4, and Jocelyn, 2. She started Chesapeake Cleaning, a commercial cleaning business, and works at Champion Realty as a sales professional "to boost her stay-at-home mom's salary!" She reports that Tiffany Altizer Cassidy '95 is married and living in St. Thomas, VI, and has a new daughter. Alexandra Geller '95 is a pottery artist, living in western Massachusetts, and Tonya Howell '95 lives in Vermont with a beautiful daughter.

Michelle Nichols Gibbons-Neff
lives in Arnold, MD, with her husband and their daughter, Lauren, 3, who recently started preschool. "We are enjoying every minute of parenthood!"

1996

Peggy Busker-Steward
is in her eighth year of teaching seventh grade science at Aberdeen Middle School in Aberdeen, MD. She married Sgt. Chad Steward (USMC) this past summer and is eagerly awaiting his return from a seven-month deployment in Iraq. She completed her Master's of Education in Leadership and Supervision at the College of Notre Dame in Baltimore last December.

Matt Needham
and his wife, Karen, moved to Puerto Rico and started a small bed & breakfast, Casa Picaflores, in the rain forest.

David Doelp '75 and his family
David Doelp '75 and his wife, Donna, have been married for 22 years. David (pictured here with his family) is an insurance specialist for Bank of America. Daughter Kristin, 21, is a junior at the University of Scranton. David will be a freshman at Scranton this fall.

Lisa Swann
married Jeffrey Rank in 1999. The couple resides in Centreville, MD, with daughter Amelia, 2. Lisa works as a realtor with Champion in Centreville.

Christian Thornton
and his two business partners in Charlotte, NC, recently completed the purchase of a software development firm they have been building for the past five years. "It is the realization of an entrepreneurial dream, and we anticipate great things in the future. Our firm is on target to generate $1.3 million in revenue this year, and we are fortunate to have clients like American Honda Motors, Acura, and BMW North America, to name a few."

1997

Stacey Waicker Schantz
and her husband, Troy, moved back to Perry Hall, MD. She works for UPS Logistics Technologies as a marketing communications manager, and Troy is a pharmaceutical sales rep for Abbott Laboratories. She would love to hear from WAC friends at staceyschantz@yahoo.com.

1998

Thom Hawkins (pka Jef Frank)
married Linda "Punky" Lehane in February 2004. The couple bought a house in Delaware in June and legally changed their names to Thom and Linda Hawkins in December. Thom is an acquisition reporting supervisor for the Army's chemical demilitarization program.

Corey Stottlemyer
received his Master's in Public Policy at Johns Hopkins. He works for a delegate and does part-time campaign/political consulting.

Mike Wilson
has changed careers. He is now the on-site beer specialist for Delaware Beverage. Any alumni can e-mail him at wilson3618@yahoo.com.

Paul Davis
was promoted to Office Manager at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville, MD, and moonlights as a phone jockey for Washington Express in Beltsville.

Andrew Lantos
sends "Greetings to my former classmates! I am currently pursuing a master's in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at Teachers College, Columbia University in good ol' New York, NY. Drop me a line, let me know what you're up to!"

2000

Reunion Chair: Mariah Stump

Bill Burke
completed his two years in Gambia, West Africa, with the Peace Corps and has moved to Lansing, MI, with Cassie Dowling '00 to attend graduate school. "Michigan is fun and I actually found a job I like, if anyone can believe that," Cassie says. They are planning to move back to Maryland in a few years when Bill finishes graduate school at MSU.

John Jenkins
is working at Johns Hopkins and pursuing a master's degree in biotechnology with a concentration in biodefense. He is also playing the highest level of amateur soccer for Charm City and Allied Soccer Clubs. They have played in the national championship in Florida, Detroit, MI, and Columbus, OH, and in the US Open Cup against semi-pro teams.

Susanna Kanther-Sista
is a third year doctoral student at Stanford in clinical psychology and lives in the San Francisco Bay area with her new husband, who is a physician at Stanford. They enjoy playing tennis and snowboarding at Lake Tahoe. They visit New Jersey often and keep in touch with several WC friends. She will be working at the Palo Alto VA hospital as a psychology trainee next year, helping our veterans. She also reports that Ajit Bharwani '00 was recently married and also lives in the San Francisco Bay area. Becca Corbin '00 is living and working in NY as a financial analyst.

Adrienne Matz
is living in West Hollywood. "Five years now! That is hard to believe! And I love Southern CA!" She is back in school at UCLA finishing up prerequisites for medical school, and plans to take the MCATS next spring. She is also working at a rehab for young women who are in recovery for drugs and alcohol.

Jacquelin "Nickie" Slusher Wilson
is living in the Inland Northwest and "will accommodate any visitors from WAC or C-town. After fiddling around with a few different careers, I'm working as a teacher in the private sector and loving it!! This spring I'm purchasing my first home."

2001

is living in Mount Laurel, NJ, and is working at a company called Masters of Marketing, Inc. as Director of Creative Services. "I love my job and the freedom I'm given to design. Hope all is well with the class of 2001."

Roland J. Fornoff
is living in Bel Air, MD, and working on a master's in Environmental Management at the University of Maryland. He is the Director of Sustainable Development for Ecco Verde, Inc. in Aberdeen, MD.

Amanda Soper Henning
and her husband, Eric, live in San Diego, CA, where she works for Gallo Wine Company. "If anyone ever finds their way out here, give me a call. 619-255-4800. It's been a while since I have been back to the WAC...hope all is well!"

Dorothy "Hyphen" Huffman-Parent
wrote an essay that will be featured in the book Birthing Mama: Real Mothers, Real Births, edited by Tiffany Palisi and due out this summer. Another essay of hers, "A Benefit Not Found in Textbooks," was included in the November-December issue of New Beginnings Magazine. An essay she wrote as part of her thesis at WAC was translated and featured in rbeitsgemeinschaft Freier Stillgrupper Bundesverband e.V, a German magazine. Her husband, Brad, (Public Safety 1999-2001) and one of her twin daughters can be seen in the June issue of Parents Magazine. For Father's Day, the magazine published a piece on military dads and included a picture of Brad and Ellie along with a comment from Hyphen.

Keeza Matundan
accepted a job with AFSCME (American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees) to work on the political action staff for the upcoming governor's race in New Jersey, organizing and running the campaign for a region of the state.

Kathryn McConlogue
has returned from the Peace Corps in Guatemala. She is starting a new job and is really happy.

2002

Sarah Blackman
"My poetry and prose has appeared or is forthcoming in: Borderlands, The Best New American Voices, 2006, The 4am Poetry Review, The Roanoke Review, and Touchstone. I'm in my second year of my MFA program at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and am currently the fiction editor of The Black Warrior Review."

Ellen Edler
is the Collections Administrator for Semmes, Bowen & Semmes, a Baltimore law firm. She is responsible for accounts receivable, collections and escrow accounts. Her new house is in Canton, a southeast Baltimore neighborhood undergoing lots of renovations and drawing young people into the city. "It is close to Patterson Park and Fells Point. It's a cute little city row home with marble front steps and stained glass in the front windows. I have the next 30 years of my life to pay it off and fix it up but it's mine."

Scott Gartlan M'04
is working as an AP Psychology teacher and heads the Service Learning Department at Cannon School in Concord, NC. He has also started a new Cineman Therapy Program.

Katie Kolacki
is in her third year teaching at Bohemia Manor Middle School in Cecil County, MD. She teaches 6th, 7th and 8th grade language arts and co-directs the high school/middle school drama productions. In her spare time she is working towards her master's in education, and performing in Covered Bridge Theater productions.

Todd Stellhorn
has just completed his training as a Peace Corps Volunteer and will be living in Avshona, Uzbekistan, for the next two years. He would enjoy receiving news from home and welcomes e-mails (ToddStellhorn69@yahoo.com) which he can access periodically.

Michael T. Virts
was recently re-elected for a second consecutive term as the President of the Class of 2008 at the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, Dental School, University of Maryland, Baltimore. He spent his Spring Break at Zaoksky Theological Seminary in Russia on his third dental mission with Dr. John Kershner of Frederick, MD. Michael remains active in many professional dental associations, including the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the Academy of Dentistry for Persons with Disabilities, the American Association of Hospital Dentists and the American Student Dental Association. He sends his best wishes to the gentlemen of Kappa Alpha Order, Beta Omega as they continue to pursue excellence in the upcoming academic year. He is proud of his brother Tyler who will graduate from WC this May, bringing the family total to four WC alumni (their parents, Clif and Marcia, graduated in '72).

Bridget Cavaiola
is working for Center Stage theatre in Baltimore in special events and is taking graduate classes at the College of Notre Dame. She is working towards an M.A. in Contemporary Communication.

Moriah Geaghan
spent the winter out west with her partner in crime, Monica Bustard, but has settled into a job assistant teaching at the Deck House School in Edgecomb, ME. Still enjoying the coastal lifestyle, she also bartends at the local watering hole, and is gearing up for the summer season and racing the J-24.

Allison Heishman
is working for CBC with Mindy A. Beers '01, Lindsay Krieg '00, Jillian "Keeza" Matundan '02 and Andrew Cowles '04. CBC is a theater company founded by WC grads. "We have an excellent season forthcoming. Please visit our website at www.thecardboardbox.org!"

Kelly McClure
says "No more marathons for me! I'm moving on to triathlons." She has completed her first two. "Graduate school is going well and I am helping to coach soccer at a middle school."

Heather Reader
is in the master's program for sports psychology at Ithaca College, where she is a graduate assistant rowing coach.

Matt Stielper
recently received his Master of Science degree in forensic science, with a concentration in criminalistics and a certification in advanced investigation, from the University of New Haven in West Haven, CT. He has since moved back to Maryland and is seeking employment in the various crime labs and medical examiners' offices in the area.

The Cassilly children enjoy having mom, Amy Farmer Cassilly '85, at home full-time. In addition to Emma, 7, and Ned, 6, Amy and her husband adopted Lydia Jing from China in May 2004.

Louis Blanchette
is studying sports administration at Georgia State University and is the assistant tennis coach at Oxford College of Emory.

is working in London as a database specialist and traveling. She attended the Toast to George Washington at Megan Metcalfe Thornton's '91 home.

Danielle Mathers
is working in London, publishing academic journals as a production assistant. She attended the London Toast to George Washington at the home of Megan Metcalfe Thornton '91.

Kelly McGlynn
attended the Toast to George Washington in Indianapolis and the Birthday Ball in Chestertown, where she visited with rowing team friends.

Teddy Obrecht
visited London to visit WC friends and attended the Toast to George at the home of Megan Metcalfe Thornton '91.

Jessica Poukish
is working in the development office at Goucher College in Towson, MD, where she processes gifts to the college.

Kathryn Riley
graduated from Drexel University in June with a Master's of Science in Instruction. "I currently work as a substitute teacher in Delaware," she says, "but I am planning to move to New Jersey next year to teach full time."

Billy Springer
is working as a researcher for a finance magazine in London. He enjoys "working, meeting new people, traveling and going out with friends and experiencing the British culture." He attended the Toast to George Washington at the home of Megan Metcalfe Thornton '91.

J. Caroline Redmer Stutts
writes: "After graduation last year I went back to Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing to complete my nursing degree. I have recently accepted a nursing position on a labor and delivery unit at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. Also, in January I was married to LT. Ike Stutts whom I dated throughout my four years at WAC. We are currently living in Annapolis."

Lindsey Wolfe
has been working at Legg Mason in Baltimore and will begin graduate classes this summer at the College of Notre Dame. She will be pursuing a master's degree in management.
