The Student Health Service is an on-campus clinic which provides medical and counseling services to full time students. All students are required to complete a health questionnaire, have a physical exam, and meet immunization requirements before their enrollment at Washington College. Physical exams must be completed within the 6 month period prior to the due date. Required immunizations are listed on the Health Form

Campus Location

The location for Student Health and Counseling Services is on the first floor of Queen Anne’s House.

Procedures

The College Health Services is open for student care daily during the regular academic year. Students are seen by appointments. To make an appointment, stop by Health Services or dial ext. 7261 on campus or 410-778-7261 off campus. During busy cold and flu seasons we aren’t able to check our e-mail as frequently as we would like, so calling for an appointment would be a better option.

Students with sudden onset of illness or injury may utilize a walk-in system for urgent care needs. Students with urgent care needs will be triaged to the appropriate care giver by a registered nurse. Students will be seen by the Family Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse, or Physician. You must present your college ID card to receive services. All services are confidential and information cannot be released to administration, faculty, parents, etc., without your permission. Students requiring more extensive evaluation, testing or admission are referred to the local hospital, Chester River Hospital Center.

Fees

There is no charge for your visit to the Health Service. However there is a minimal charge for medications, vaccines and lab tests. Students are also financially responsible for the cost of any services performed outside of the College Health Center or prescriptions that need to be filled at a local pharmacy.

Students have a choice of receiving a written prescription to take to a local pharmacy or to purchase prescriptions from Health Services. Prescriptions, Lab tests & vaccines received from Health Services will be charged to the student’s college account.

Please feel free to inquire about the amount of the charge before medications, tests or vaccines are given. These charges cannot be refunded after services are rendered.

Self-help Shelf

A self-help shelf is available in the waiting area and can be accessed during regular office hours without registering at the Health Service. Items available on the shelf include Tylenol, ibuprofen, decongestants, band-aids, thermometers, cough drops, condoms, and throat lozenges. First aid kits are available on each hall and contain all items on the self-help shelf as well as ice packs, gloves, and bandages. Contact your resident hall assistant for these items.

Emergency Contraception

Health Services offers the morning after pill. Students will need to schedule an appointment with Health Services. There is no charge for this service, and as with all services, it is confidential.

The morning after pill (Plan B) may be given up to 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected sex.

Release of Health Information

Occasionally students need to have their health records/immunization records mailed or faxed to their doctor at home, another college, grad school, or a new employer. In order for us to provide these records we need to have an Authorization for the release of health information form completed. You may print out this form below, and either fax or mail the completed form to us. Your records will be sent out within 2 weeks of us receiving the release. Health Records are kept by Health Services for 10 years after you leave Washington College.
