Welcome
The Global Education Office is committed to the philosophy that a student’s college-experience is deeply enriched by living and learning in another culture and country.

The Study Abroad side of the Global Education Office encourages every Washington College student to participate in an overseas educational experience, in a setting most appropriate for him or her, and with guidance and support throughout the process.
An academic experience overseas has far-reaching benefits for students of all majors, expanding their world perspective as it opens their minds to political, social, cultural, and economic traditions different from their own.

Application Process for Semester/Year Study:
Step 1: Washington College has a two-tiered application process to study abroad. Students first complete a Washington College application. This ensures that applicants have the necessary qualifications for the institution to which they are applying, and that they are not on academic or disciplinary probation at the time of application or when they will be abroad. Approval by Washington College to apply to a host institution is a very strong endorsement to the host institution/partner program.
Step 2: Students then complete an application to their future host institution. The host applications are posted on a secure Blackboard site available to students once they have been approved to study abroad. Components from the Washington College application (i.e. transcript and letters of recommendation) are used in the host institution application to ensure that there is not duplicate work. The host applications are posted on a secure Blackboard site available to students once they have been approved to study abroad.
Due Date:
Applications for fall, spring, and academic year study abroad are due the 3rd Friday in February during the academic year prior to the year a student wishes to study abroad.
Applications for fall 2013 and spring 2014 are closed at this time. If you wish to go abroad in spring 2014, Please get in touch with Kate McCleary immediately.
The once a year application cycle ensures adequate time for students to obtain immigration paperwork and secure housing abroad, and requires advanced planning.
