Mark Hampton

VP for Finance and Administration

I am honored to serve as the College’s Vice President for Finance and Administration. Through my very talented directors, I oversee the areas of finance, budget, endowment management, risk management, business services, facilities management and construction, information technology, and human resources. I serve on the President’s Senior Staff and on the College’s Benefits and Finance and Planning Committees. I staff the Board’s Financial Affairs, Investment, and Building & Grounds Committees as well as the Real Estate and Audit Subcommittees of these Committees.

Before coming to Washington College, I served as the Assistant Vice President for Budget & Financial Planning at the University of Virginia, where I oversaw the Academic Division’s $1.4 billion operating budget and $800 million capital budgets. Prior to that, I served for six years as the Senior Associate Dean for Strategy and Planning at the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education, where I also regularly taught courses in higher-education leadership as an Associate Professor in the Department of Leadership, Foundations and Policy. 

I have held key information technology, institutional research, and planning positions at Virginia Commonwealth University (2001-2007), and at the State Council of Higher Education in Virginia (1999 - 2001). I started my career in higher education in 1992 at the University of Utah in institutional research, planning, and budgeting.

I am an avid runner, having completed 19 regular marathons and 3 ultramarathons. I live with my husband, Jay Alexander, in Chestertown with our two Labs, Stella and Louie. My stepson Colin is a rising junior at James Madison University, where he is majoring in being awesome.
