William is a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame. His citation is copied below:
Bill Usilton was an outstanding performer in basketball, track and football, and a campus leader during his four years at Washington College, 1925-29.
He was a valuable member of the Flying Pentagon basketball teams of 1927-28 and 1928-29. At 6’6”, he was a tower of strength at center in the time of the jump ball after every basket. Under both baskets he was a leading rebound man. He was a stabilizer on two fine teams.
A member of the track team from 1926-1929, he was one of the early athletes to score points at the Penn Relays, placing fifth in the high jump in 1927. His high jump mark of 5’10” remained a W. C. record until 1950. He also participated in the hurdles and dashes and was captain in 1929.
In his senior year, he went out for football and by dint of hard work, earned a position on the team playing end.
He was editor-in-chief of the Collegian, president of the History Club, Mt. Vernon Society, Varsity Club and class treasurer during a college career in which he was very popular.
