Q&A

Hometown: Pittsburgh, PA

High School: Hampton High School

What is your favorite food?

The tater tots and mozzarella sticks from the dining hall are the BEST!

What do you do for a campus job or work study?

I am a Peer Mentor, a Public Safety student dispatcher, and I will be interning in the Human Resources department in the fall.

What are you up to this summer? And what are you most looking forward to?

I have been working as a Teacher Aide at a school for kids with multiple disabilities. Being back in Pittsburgh has been wonderful, and I’ve also had the opportunity to volunteer at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

I’m so excited to be back at WC for my senior year! I have a lot of big plans and am really looking forward to starting my thesis and interning.

Have you had any internship, research, or study abroad experiences?

In the Spring semester of 2013, I studied abroad in Istanbul, Turkey. It was a magical experience that allowed me to truly experience a new culture. I’ve travelled around the world and I speak some Turkish everyday. It was amazing to try a totally new cuisine, hear the call to prayer everyday, live with other Turkish students, and meet other students from all over the world! I would encourage everyone to study abroad if they have the chance!

How has WC changed your life? Or, what does WC mean to you?

Washington College is where I have found my best friends, the place where I’ve discovered my passion for my studies and, most importantly, my home away from home. The community has kept me going during hard times and pushed me even further. I love the location, the people, and the classes.

Why did you choose your major?

I am fascinated by how the brain influences our lives and behaviors. With the Psychology major and the Behavioral Neuroscience concentration, I am able to study what I love. Also, I have had the opportunity to participate and perform research in the great labs at Washington College. I have learned how to design experiments, as well as do research with mice and rats. The professors were so supportive from the beginning, before I even started my first year. They are so knowledgeable and great at teaching. I look forward to continuing my studies in the Psychology Department!
