What do you do for a campus job or work study?
I am a Peer Mentor, a Public Safety student dispatcher, and an Admissions tour guide.
What are you up to this summer? And what are you most looking forward to?
I’m staying in Istanbul, Turkey for a month as an extension of my study abroad experience. I’m looking forward to travelling and seeing more of Turkey, practicing my Turkish, and eating all of my favorite Turkish foods before coming back to America!
When I get home, I’m going to move into my new house in Chestertown. I loved decorating my dorm rooms and now I get to have my own room and live with my best friends. Now I’ll have to learn how to cook for myself!
Have you had any internship, research, or study abroad experiences?
This past Spring (2013) I studied abroad in Istanbul, Turkey. It’s been a magical experience that has allowed me to truly experience a new culture. I’ve travelled around the world and I speak some Turkish everyday. It’s been amazing to try a totally new cuisine, hear the call to prayer everyday, live with other Turkish students, and meet other students from all over the world! I would encourage everyone to study abroad if they have the chance!
How has WC changed your life? Or, what does WC mean to you?
Washington College is where I have found my best friends, the place where I’ve discovered my passion for my studies and, most importantly, my home away from home. The community has kept me going during hard times and pushed me even further. I love the location, the people, and the classes. Being away for a semester has made me realize how much I appreciate Washington College and everything it has to offer.
Why did you choose your major?
I am fascinated by how the brain influences our lives and behaviors. With the Psychology major and the Behavioral Neuroscience concentration, I am able to study what I love. Also, I have had the opportunity to participate and perform research in the great labs at Washington College. I have learned how to design experiments, as well as do research with mice and rats. The professors were so supportive from the beginning, before I even started my first year. They are so knowledgeable and great at teaching. I look forward to continuing my studies in the Psychology Department!
